Each Phase I award provides up to $100,000 for six months of feasibility research, running from August 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Projects that show promise may qualify for Phase II funding of up to $400,000.

Highlights include AI safety frameworks, nanoscale thermal mapping for semiconductors, and advanced simulation tools for 3D printing. Madison-based Intact Solutions is developing software to optimize multi-laser powder bed fusion processes.
Other projects aim to improve emergency response platforms and aerospace materials, showcasing the program’s broad impact across industries. NIST’s investment reflects a commitment to empowering small businesses to tackle national challenges and accelerate technological progress.
