Brian Walsh joins CTC Team

Brian Walsh is the newest addition to the Center for Technology Commercialization team as a Business Development & Technology Commercialization Consultant.

Walsh is a UW System alumnus having received his B.S. in Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his M.B.A in Marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. His educational background in life science research and marketing, has been directly applied to his previous professional positions.

Prior to CTC, Walsh owned and operated a small Wisconsin-based technology company that developed, manufactured and marketed equipment and kits for biotechnology research and education.

“What I enjoyed most about this experience was the market and product development process – talking with customers to identify their needs, brainstorming to come up with innovative solutions, designing with the end-user in mind and putting it all together,” Walsh said. “I am looking forward to applying my background to consulting with aspiring and established entrepreneurs.”

Brian has also worked in the technology transfer field, helping inventors from many UW System campuses navigate the process of taking their ideas from concept to commercialization.

In addition, he presented seminars on technology commercialization and mentored entrepreneurs in business model optimization during a Peace Corps economic development assignment at a research center in Mexico.

“We here at the CTC are excited to bring Brian on to the team. He has a variety of business and industry experience that is unique and complementary to our staff and will be very helpful as we work with our clients,” said Todd Strother, Senior Technology Consultant. “We are looking forward to utilizing his experience in both maintaining and expanding our services to our client companies.”

At CTC, he is looking forward to drawing upon his background to provide commercialization-focused assistance to Wisconsin innovators and technology-based firms and counseling entrepreneurs to prepare them for federal funding through SBIR/STTR programs and other funding mechanisms.

Catch Brian Walsh in person at the First Look Forum on April 8 at the University Club of Milwaukee or at CTC’s free April 17th event featuring Federal speakers from the National Cancer Institute and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences!
